Victoriano Garza, 89, of Linn/ San Manuel passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 2, 2026, in McAllen, Texas.
Born in Solino, Texas, Victoriano was a proud veteran, devoted cowboy, hardworking farmer and a skilled, self-employed welder who also enjoyed making pan de campo. Living a life defined by honor, strength and dedication, he answered the call to serve his country with courage. While serving in the Army, he became a rifle man, winning many shooting competitions. Through hard work and unwavering determination, he returned home to build a life with his loving wife of 59 years, Ascencion. He enjoyed dancing, spending time with family, and was an avid sports follower, especially watching his grandchildren play and proudly cheering them on. Whether tending the land, working cattle, or welding with expert hands, he took much pride in his work and believed that every job was worth doing right.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ascencion Garza; daughter, Idalia Garza; son, Victor Garza; parents, Antonio and Anita Garza; three brothers, Antonio Garza, Benito Garza and Eulalio Garza.
Mr. Garza is survived by his children, Sonia Garza, Sandra Garza, Belinda (Ruben) Rodriguez, Benito (Yvonne) Garza, Dina (Mauricio) Rivas; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five siblings, Theodora (Joaquin) Cavazos, Enedina Garcia, Enedelia Gutierrez, Bonnie Flores, Juan (Janie) Garza.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with an 11 a.m. rosary and 12 noon Memorial service Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Interment of cremated remains will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
Military Honors will be conducted by VFW Post 8788 of McAllen.
We would like to thank the Alfredo Gonzalez Texas State Veterans Home for taking such good care of our dad. Special thanks to the staff in the 800 halls. You all became our second family and always treated our dad with the utmost respect, dignity, kindness and love. Your advocacy and care for our dad did not go unnoticed and you all are truly appreciated.
