EDINBURG-Teodora “Dora” Vela Garcia, 90, fulfilled God’s greatest gift when she returned to Him on Thursday, June 14, 2018 after a brief illness.
Dora was born on November 22, 1927, the eldest child of Rafael and Marta Vela at El Diserto Ranch near Edinburg, where she lived most of her life. She was the beloved wife of the late Albert Garcia, and the devoted mother of the late Marla Garcia Ball and Richard “Rick” Garcia of McAllen. For the last 22 years of her life, Dora found comfort as legal guardian for her nephew Rafael “Ralphy” Vela, whom she lovingly cared for. She will be remembered by family and friends as a giver, impacting the many lives she touched.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her daughter, her parents, and her siblings Rafael Vela, Crisanto Vela, and Carmen Cano.
Dora is survived by her son Rick, her sister Eva (James) Murphy of New Carrollton, Maryland, her nephew Ralphy, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Sunday, June 17, 2018, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
