Teresa Ann Smith was born to Mr. and Mrs. L.P. Collins in Brownsville, Texas on November 14, 1944. Teresa peacefully passed into eternal rest on March 7, 2026. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Thomas W. Smith III, her sisters Laura Kelch, and Martha Collins, brother William Edward “Bubba” Collins, and parents Mr. and Mrs. L.P. Collins.
She is survived by her loving children: Timothy Weston Smith (Kathy) of Spring, Texas; Samuel Collins Smith (Diana) of Edinburg, Texas; and Mary Margaret Smith Naylor of San Antonio, Texas. Teresa was a proud and devoted grandmother to 7 grandchildren. Her grandchildren, Tiffany Smith (Stone), Benjamin Smith, Rebekah Smith, Nicholas Smith, Lauren Smith, Charlotte Naylor, and Oliver Naylor brought great joy to her life. She is also survived by her dear sister, Sarabeth Cawlfield, along with many cherished nieces and nephews.
Teresa was a longtime member of The First Baptist Church of Brownsville, Texas, where her faith was the cornerstone of her life. For more than 35 years, she faithfully served as a teacher for The First Baptist School, dedicating her life to shaping young hearts and minds.
As a young child, Teresa felt a calling to serve as a missionary. In time, she realized that her mission field was in the classroom. Through her years of teaching, she lovingly guided and influenced countless children, not only in their studies but also in their faith, leading many to know Christ.
Her devotion to the Lord was evident in her daily life. Teresa spent many quiet evenings in prayer, studying the Bible, and walking faithfully with Jesus. Her faith was deep, steady, and unwavering. She shared the love of Jesus with everyone she encountered.
As a mother, Teresa faithfully led her children in the ways of the Lord, teaching them about His love, grace, mercy, and forgiveness. Her legacy of faith, love, and service will continue through the lives she touched.
Many thanks to the staff of the Windsor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of McAllen for providing loving care for her during her final years.
Today, we rejoice as we entrust Teresa into the loving arms of her Savior where she will eternally rest in his presence. She now walks the golden streets of Heaven she so often spoke about, reunited in peace and joy with her dearly departed husband, “Tommy”, and her personal Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As she entered His gates, she certainly heard the words “Well done my good and faithful servant.”
