RED GATE – Silvia Trevino Hinojosa, 83, entered eternal rest on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at her home in Red Gate, Texas.
Silvia was born on November 26, 1941, in Edinburg, Texas, to Francisca Cavazos Treviño and Benjamin Cuauhtémoc Treviño. She spent her early childhood in Vancouver, British Columbia, and later in Calexico, California, before returning with her family to the Rio Grande Valley. In 1959, she married her beloved husband, and together they made their home in Red Gate, Texas, where they raised their children on La Hacienda Hinojosa. Silvia worked as an Administrative Assistant to numerous Edinburg City Managers throughout her career, faithfully attending every City Commissioners meeting to stay engaged with the community she loved. A lifelong learner, Silvia believed it was each person’s responsibility to keep seeking knowledge, and she nurtured that value through her love of reading.
Silvia’s happiest moments were spent by the water. Collecting seashells, of any shape and size, was one of her greatest joys. At home, she found peace on the ranch, often admiring the view from her living room. She found delight in bargain-hunting trips to Ross, the Dollar Store, and TJ Maxx, often picking up thoughtful gifts for family members when she spotted something special. A true night owl, Silvia enjoyed staying up late watching TV, cheering on Patrick Mahomes, sleeping in, and catching up on her soap operas in the afternoon. Most of all, she cherished visits from her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Zuka Khabbazeh, Dr. Mandie Navarro, Dolores Root, and the staff at Allstate Hospice for the compassionate medical care that they provided to our mother. Special thanks are extended to Mari and Armando Calvillo, Lupita Ramos, and Roy Villa for their loving care of our mother, and to Imelda Palomo and Luciana Arzola for their faithful dedication to her until her final day.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Lucas H. Hinojosa; her parents, Benjamin C. and Francisca Treviño; and three siblings, Benjamin (Jackie) Treviño, Richard Treviño, and Rachel (Carlos) Carrales.
Left to treasure her memory are her four children, Dr. Lucas Gerard (Norma) Hinojosa, Benjamin Paul (Belinda) Hinojosa, Natalie Bea (Ramiro) Garza, and Omar Rene (Marie) Hinojosa; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two siblings, Beatrice Treviño and Mike (Barbara) Treviño; and her sister-in-law, Virginia Treviño.
