EDINBURG - Donato “Tito” C. Salinas, 83, passed away peacefully and on his own terms Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Born October 22, 1934 in Edinburg, Tito had lived in Lull (La Hielera) throughout his life. In his youth, he married his sweetheart, Francisca G. Garza, and worked for Pan American University for 33 years. Tito is responsible for many of the improvements in the community of La Hielera. Throughout his life, Donato was an active member of Capilla San Jose Catholic Church and a civil servant at heart. He served as board member for the Hidalgo County Fire District #5 and a member of the Hidalgo County Grand Jury for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Epimenio and Inez Salinas; his daughter Celia Avila; and his six siblings.
Tito is survived by his loving wife, Francisca G. Salinas; their children, Susie (†Jose Luis) Mercado, Sylvia Salinas, Yolanda Salinas-Granados, Inez (Pablo) Rubalcaba, Donato (Edith) Salinas, Jr.; 15 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; six brothers; and two sisters.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, June 1, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Sacred Heart Church. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.
Ronnie Rodriguez, Jose Javier Mercado, Antonio Quintanilla, Joe Michael Granados, Misael De Leon, and Marcos Mares will serve as pallbearers.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
