Romeo Cantu

PHARR - With deep love and sorrow, the family of Romeo Cantu announces his peaceful passing on March 11, 2026.
Romeo was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend, whose kindness and generous heart touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was born on May 1, 1940, married his beloved wife, Lucia, in 1964, and they had three wonderful children: Romeo Cantu Jr., Corina Cantu Gutierrez, and Homer Cantu.
Romeo worked all his life doing what he loved — driving an 18-wheeler. He was fortunate enough to own his own company, CANTU TRUCKING, in Houston, Texas, for many years. In 2003, he retired and came back to his hometown of San Juan, Texas, where he spent the remainder of his years.
He loved watching boxing and calling his children and grandchildren daily. He was always there to give them advice and lend them a hand, or anyone else who needed it.
We will miss him dearly and look forward to being reunited with him someday.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Lucia Cantu; his parents, Adan and Fidela Rodriguez Cantu; and three siblings, Thelma Sanchez, Adan Cantu Jr., and Isaura Cantu.
Romeo is survived by his three children: a son, Romeo Cantu Jr., a daughter, Corina (Hiram) Gutierrez, and a son, Homer Cantu. Three grandchildren: Joshua Hiram (Dr. Clarissa) Gutierrez, Jordan Elijah (Sheri) Rabanal, and Jared Alexander Gutierrez; one great-grandchild, Logan Elijah Rabanal; and 2 siblings: Jesus (Elisa) Cantu and Alonso Cantu.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m., with a 6 p.m. rosary Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2026, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at San Juan Cemetery.Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
