SAN JUAN – Rogelio “Roy” Garcia, 84, entered eternal rest Thursday, October 16, 2025, at South Texas Health System McAllen.
Born and raised in San Juan, Roy proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He built a successful career as a salesman, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit through his involvement in the Jaycees, where he honed his business acumen. Over the years, he owned a convenience store, operated a home construction business, and served as the Maintenance and Custodian Supervisor for PSJA ISD. A man of deep faith, Roy dedicated himself to serving the Lord, answering the call to pastor El Buen Pastor Church in Alamo for twelve years, where he guided countless individuals on their spiritual journeys.
Roy had a passion for boxing and became a pioneer of the sport in the PSJA area during the 1970s and 80s. As a devoted father, he was always present, supporting his children's and grandchildren's extracurricular activities. He enjoyed camping and fishing, and he also served as a chaplain for both the San Juan Police Department and the Pharr American Legion.
He is preceded in death by a son, Jaime David Garcia; his parents, Nicolas and Concepcion A. Garcia; two brothers, Humberto Garcia and Rene A. Garcia.
Mr. Garcia is survived by his wife of 63 years, Hortencia Garcia; four children, Jacob Garcia, Rogelio (Mayra) Garcia Jr., Raquel G. (Juan) Alcazar, Benjamin A. (Ana Leos) Garcia; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Carolina Goldstein and Alicia Ramos.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m., with a 6 p.m. prayer service on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
