Gloria P. Rodriguez

September 4, 1949 — March 17, 2023

Gloria Perez Rodriguez, 73, passed away Friday, March 17, 2023, at her residence in Edinburg.
Born in Weslaco and raised in Elsa, she attended Edcouch High School. She then graduated from Pan American University with a Bachelor's Degree in English and Master's Degree in Mid Management. Gloria was employed at Pan American University for ten years, rising from secretary to Director of Accounting. She was also employed at McAllen Memorial High School for over 30 years as a Career Technology instructor and English teacher.
Gloria spent her childhood as a resolute and reliable daughter. She was not raised in privilege; she learned early to work hard and be true to family if she was to ascend in life. She spent her time as a devoted wife and fiercely protective mother. Her remarkable marriage lasted almost half a century and she embodied the "mama bear" spirit when it came to raising her children. She spent her last years battling a sickness that never took away her passion and compassion for life and others around her. Her actions and words will live on through the actions and words of those she leaves behind.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Alejos Sr. and Virginia Perez; three brothers, Juan, Andres, Arturo Perez; and two nephews, Johnny and Andres Perez.
Living to cherish her memories are her husband of 48 years, Hector Rodriguez Jr.; two sons, Hector (Ruby) Rodriguez III and their children, Adrian, Jade and Andrew, and Omar Rodriguez and his daughter, Diana; two daughters, Catarina and Cristina Rodriguez; a brother, Alejos Perez Jr.; two sisters, Mary Garcia, Catarina (Jimmy) Beresky; and several nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 6 p.m. prayer service, Monday, March 20, 2023 at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Cremation will take place at Memorial Cremation Center in Edinburg. A private cremation ceremony will take place Wednesday afternoon.
