Pedro "Pete" Sanchez Jr.

December 2, 1935 — May 11, 2025

Edinburg

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Pete Sanchez, who left us on May 11, 2025, at the age of 89.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, Marine, and friend, Pete lived a life full of love, laughter, loyalty, and purpose.

Born on December 2, 1935, in McAllen, Texas, Pete was a proud member of the McAllen Bulldogs football team, where he helped lead them to a state title contention. The friendships he forged on the field became lifelong bonds that he cherished deeply.

After graduating from high school, Pete answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corps. He served with honor and pride, exemplifying the core values of courage, discipline, and commitment that guided him throughout his life.

A faithful member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Edinburg, Texas, Pete was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, where he contributed to the church and his community with unwavering dedication.

Following his military service, Pete worked for over 40 years in the beer business, primarily with Lone Star Distributing. He formed strong friendships with coworkers and customers, becoming well-respected in the community for his hard work, loyalty, and generous spirit.

Pete was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Astros, and he loved taking trips to Las Vegas. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored and supported in all their endeavors.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Hilda N. Sanchez; parents, Pedro and Elena Sanchez; four siblings, Heriberto Sanchez, Viola Peña, Leonel Sanchez, Arturo Noe Sanchez and son-in-law Bruno F. Martinez Jr.

Mr. Sanchez is survived by his three children, Judy Martinez, Diana Barron, Sandra M. Avila; four grandchildren, Matthew B. (Marissa) Martinez, Michael (Jessica) Martinez, Cassandra (James Ramirez) Avila, Marco A. Avila; five great-grandchildren, Gabriella Martinez, Sophia Martinez, Mateo Martinez, Michaela Martinez, León James Ramirez; two siblings, Maria Elena (Porfirio+) Casas, Rolando (Amalia) Sanchez; and other loving family members and friends who will deeply miss his warmth, humor, and unwavering support.
