Myrna Leticia "Awie" Gutierrez

July 10, 1939 – June 13, 2025

Myrna Leticia Gutierrez, lovingly known as "Awie," passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, at the age of 85.

She was born on July 10, 1939, in Hacienda San Isidro, Nuevo León, Mexico. In the early 1960s, she moved to Edinburg, Texas, where she met the love of her life, Santiago B. Gutierrez. They married in the summer of 1964 and together raised their children in a home filled with faith and love.

Myrna was a woman of deep faith, gentle strength, and endless generosity. She was the heart of her family, a source of comfort, guidance, and unconditional love. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—watching Cantinflas movies, listening to music – especially Marco Antonio Solis, playing lotera, feeding birds in her patio, and tending to her plants with care and love. Her home was always warm and welcoming.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Santiago B. Gutierrez; three siblings, Carlos Rodriguez, Tomas Rodriguez, and Maria Cristina Lopez de Sanchez.

Myrna is survived by her nine children, Luis Santiago Gutierrez (Benjawan┼), Nora Alicia Gutierrez, Martha Laura Gutierrez, Rebecca Gutierrez, Myrna Celia “Bubba” Light (Carl Gene┼), Ruben Gutierrez (Eva), Roberto Gutierrez, Raquel Sanchez (Reynaldo┼), and Jesusa Moreno (Manuel). She is also lovingly remembered by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to her life.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jose Baldemar "Joey" Gonzalez III, Samuel Isaac Gomez, Roberto Gutierrez Jr., Rudy "Jimmy" Moreno, Marin Sanchez, Javier Sanchez Jr., Jaime Villarreal, and Jose A. "T.J." Lozano.
