Esteban Montemayor, 81, went home to our Lord Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg.
Born in Odem, TX, Mr. Montemayor lived in Pharr most of his life. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who devoted his life to serving the Lord with all his heart. Esteban began his career at TxDOT (Texas Department of Transportation) as a custodian and later became night watchman, worked in the auto repair department, and finally, head welder of the department. He retired after 33 years of service. Mr. Montemayor worked every day as if he worked for the Lord and made many friends, who he met with at the coffee shop to share his 3 tacos as usual. Esteban did not complete school as a teenager. In order to help support his parents and his siblings, he worked in the fields as manual labor. After, being married for many years he completed high school, receiving his GED, and also receiving a Masters in Theology. He then, extended his wisdom towards his young students by teaching night classes at Berea Institute in Edinburg, TX.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Gilda Montemayor; and his parents, Manuel and Sara Montemayor.
Mr. Montemayor is survived by his loving wife, Dominga P. Montemayor of Pharr; seven children, Esteban (Irene) Montemayor Jr. of San Antonio, Eleazar (Rebecca) Montemayor of San Juan, Irma (Arnoldo) Pena of Houston, Noemi Rodriguez of Pharr, Norma (Oscar Jr.) Maltos of McAllen, Alexander Montemayor of Pharr, Stewart (Christine) Montemayor of McAllen; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four brothers; four sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service Friday, May 25, 2018, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.
Pallbearers will be Eric Lee Montemayor, Arnoldo (AJ) Peña Jr., Eli Montemayor, Stephen Oscar Maltos, Andrew Wayne Montemayor, and Vincent Rodriguez. Honorary pallbearers are Clarissa Yvette Montemayor and Elias Montemayor.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
