Maria "Mere" G. Saenz

ALAMO — Maria “Mere” G. Saenz, 82, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026.

Mrs. Saenz is survived by her children, Erasmo Saenz Jr. of Alamo and Eloy Saenz of Edinburg; grandchildren, Erasmo Roel Saenz of Alamo and Sydney Saenz of Colorado; three great-grandchildren; and her sister, Esther Gil of Pharr.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Erasmo Saenz Sr.; her parents, Francisco and Petra Gongora; her sisters, Irene Flores, Josefina Tanguma, and Consuelo Barrientes; and her brothers, Francisco Gongora Jr., Florencio Gongora, Jorge Gongora, and Antonio Gongora.

Maria was born and raised in Alamo and worked for Palace Cleaners in McAllen for many years. She will be remembered and dearly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m., followed by a 6 p.m. prayer service, on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Guadalupe Cemetery in Pharr.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Yolanda Martinez, friend and provider from Felicidad Homecare, as well as Linda, Lupita, Maritza, Jose, and Ruben of Lynncare Hospice Services, for the compassionate care, comfort, and support they provided to our mother.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
