Maria Antonia "Toñita" Ocañas

EDINBURG - Maria Antonia "Toñita" Ocañas, 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 30, 2026, surrounded by her family at Woman’s Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg.

Mrs. Ocañas was a devoted servant of our Lord and had a profound love for her family; her favorite times were spent in their company. In her younger years, she enjoyed gardening and cooking as well as music and dancing.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Abelardo Ocañas; her son, Severiano Solis; her grandson, Juan Angel Ocañas Jr.; her parents, Margarito and Estefana Rodriguez; three sisters; and one brother.

Mrs. Ocañas is survived by her four children: Oswaldo (Nora) Cantu, Juan Angel Ocañas, Jose Guadalupe (Rebecca) Ocañas, and Blanca (Jose) Valadez, as well as her daughter-in-law, Lilia “Lee” Solis. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all of her caregivers over the years for their care and support.

Visitation will begin at 5 PM, with a rosary at 6 PM, on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Memorial Funeral Home, located at 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. The funeral service will take place at 10 AM on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in San Juan, TX. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.
