Maria Elena “Elenita” Hernandez, 82, went to be with her Heavenly Father on February 24, 2026.
Elenita was born in Madgadlenas Guanajuato. She was a woman of resilience and determination. Although her formal education was limited, her wisdom, work ethic, and perseverance carried her far in life. She believed that hard work, faith, and love for family were the true measures of success. Through dedication and sacrifice, she built a life filled with purpose and created opportunities for her children that she herself did not have. Her strength was quiet but powerful, and her example will continue to guide us always.
Elenita was the very definition of selfless love. She opened her heart and her home to anyone in need, offering food, shelter, comfort, and kindness without ever expecting anything in return. If someone was hungry, she fed them. If someone needed a place to stay, she made room. She gave freely, quietly, and wholeheartedly.
She was adored by everyone she met. Her warmth drew people in, and her generosity made them feel like family. To us, she was our rock — steady, strong, and always present. She celebrated the lives of those she loved in the way she knew best: by cooking their favorite meals and gathering everyone around the table. Those meals were more than food; they were expressions of love, comfort, and togetherness.
While we will deeply miss the dishes only she could make and the way she made every gathering feel special, the values she instilled in us — kindness, generosity, faith, and family — will continue her legacy. Her love lives on in the lives she touched and in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Though her family grieves her absence, they take comfort in knowing she now rests in the presence of the Lord she loved so deeply. Her legacy lives on in every prayer whispered, every meal shared, and every child, grandchild, and great grandchild who carries her strength forward.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Natividad Hernandez, Maria Inez Perez Torres; grandmother, Antonia Perez Torres; brothers, Emilio Hernandez, Maximiliano Hernandez, Adolfo Hernandez and daughter-in-law, Josefa Muñoz.
Mrs. Hernandez is survived by her children, Ramon (Lluvia) Muñoz II, Gilbert (Anna) Muñoz, Victoria Del Carmen Muñoz (Scott) Swanger, Juan Manuel (Rosie) Muñoz, Sandra (Juan Jose Moreno) Yanez, Alicia (Juan Garza) Yanez, Jesse Yanez; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two siblings, Ofelia Chagolla, Guadalupe Luna; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
