MARIA “MARY” P. GUERRA

EDINBURG – Maria “Mary” P. Guerra, 80, passed away Friday, May 8, 2026, at Colonial Manor in Pharr.

Mary was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and educator whose kindness touched countless lives. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, she passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family. Mary found joy in cooking, spending time with her loved ones, and helping anyone in need in any way she could. Her greatest treasures were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved deeply and unconditionally. She also cherished the daily and weekly phone calls with her siblings, conversations that brought her comfort and happiness throughout her life. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jesus and Maria Porras; two siblings, Lupe Porras and Amador Porras.

Mrs. Guerra is survived by her son, David P. (Susan) Guerra Jr.; two grandchildren, Lauren (Raul) Gonzalez, Vanessa Guerra; five great-grandchildren, Marie Gonzalez, Penelope Gonzalez, Ramona Gonzalez, Layla Cantu, Laiza Cantu; three siblings, Cris Trevino, Amadeo Porras, Jesus (Sandra) Porras; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Our family would like to sincerely thank all our family and friends for the continued prayers, visits, love and support during these past few weeks. We are especially grateful to DHR Hospice for the compassionate and excellent care they provided during her final days.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. with a 6 p.m. rosary Monday, May 11, 2026, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. 

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
