Maria Del Roble Chapa Gomez Pruneda

November 9, 1940 — April 24, 2026

Maria Del Roble Chapa Gomez Pruneda, 85, went to be with our Lord on April 24, 2026, surrounded by her family in San Antonio. A devoted mother and grandmother, she lived a life grounded in faith, family, and resilience.

Born November 9, 1940, in Pharr, Texas, to Adelina Chapa and Francisco Gómez, Maria grew up as their only child, embraced by a large, lively circle of cousins. Raised in the Clark neighborhood, she found community in the close‑knit streets where evenings were filled with lotería, celebrations, and shared support.

From a young age, Maria worked alongside her parents in the family business, learning responsibility and the value of hard work. On weekends, she loved dressing up to hear the orchestras Mr. Vera brought to town—music and dancing were her joy. She was also an athlete, playing outfield in a women’s softball league, driven purely by her love of the game.

In 1964, Maria married Isauro G. Pruneda, and together they built the family she cherished above all else. Her passion for sports continued throughout her life. She was a devoted UT Longhorns fan and a loyal Chicago Bears supporter for more than six decades. Her enthusiasm grew with each generation, especially as she proudly cheered on her granddaughter in tennis.

Maria faced every chapter of life with courage, strength, and the determined spirit she carried from her Chapa/Gomez roots. Her legacy of love, perseverance, and joyful memories will continue to inspire all who knew her.

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles.” — Isaiah 40:31

She was preceded in death by her husband, Isauro Pruneda, and her son, Roel Ray Pruneda.
