Maria Elena Cantu

Born on June 1, 1973 

Maria Elena “Melly” Cantu, age 51, passed away peacefully in her home on September 17, 2024. She will be deeply missed by her husband, Elias Cantu; daughters, Crystal and Araceli Cantu; son Angel Cantu; grandchildren, Christopher Cantu and Junior Espinoza; sisters, Juana Castañeda, Natalia Zepeda, and Josefa Salazar; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Nicomedes Robledo; mother, Maria Guadalupe Robledo; brothers, Sabino and Nicomedes Robledo; sister, Bertha Hernandez; and grandson, Christian Espinoza. 

Melly met the love of her life, Elias, at the age of 16 at a dance hall. Captivated by his blue eyes and mustache, she fell in love, and together they built a family in Austin, TX, before moving to Edinburg, TX. 

A lively spirit, Melly loved to dance and sing. She shared her passion for dance with her daughters and many nieces. Known for her ability to organize a celebration in an instant, she thrived on the joy of family and friends. Melly maintained close connections with her nieces and nephews, earning the title of the "cool aunt." 

Melly began to read the Bible in the last year of her life, and her favorite book was Psalms. The verses offered her comfort. They became a source of solace and reflection, helping her find peace in her journey. 

Melly was cherished deeply by her family. Her warmth and love will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.

Su esposo, Elias Cantu; sus hijas, Crystal y Araceli Cantu; su hijo, Angel Cantu; sus nietos, Christopher Cantu y Junior Espinoza; sus hermanas, Juana Castañeda, Natalia Zepeda y Josefa Salazar; y muchos sobrinos la extrañarán profundamente. La preceden en la muerte su padre, Nicomedes Robledo; su madre, María Guadalupe Robledo; sus hermanos, Sabino y Nicomedes Robledo; su hermana, Bertha Hernández; y su nieto, Christian Espinoza.

Melly conoció al amor de su vida, Elias, a los 16 años en un salón de baile. Cautivada por sus ojos azules y su bigote, se enamoró y juntos construyeron una familia en Austin, TX, antes de mudarse a Edinburg, TX.

Con un espíritu vivaz, a Melly le encantaba bailar y cantar. Compartió su pasión por la danza con sus hijas y muchas de sus sobrinas. Conocida por su habilidad para organizar una celebración en un instante, disfrutaba de la alegría que le brindaban su familia y amigos. Melly mantuvo conexiones cercanas con sus sobrinas y sobrinos, ganándose el título de “la tía cool”.

Melly comenzó a leer la Biblia en el último año de su vida, y su libro favorito era Salmos. Los versículos le ofrecieron consuelo. Se convirtieron en una fuente de alivio y reflexión, ayudándola a encontrar paz en su camino.

Melly fue profundamente querida por su familia. Su calidez y amor serán enormemente extrañados por todos los que la conocieron.
