MARIA ELVA DE LEÓN

MCALLEN - Maria Elva De León passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026 at the age of 74.

Born on December 2, 1952 in McAllen, Texas Maria lived a life dedicated to education, faith, and family. She served as an elementary school principal for many years, where she touched the lives of countless students, teachers, and families through her leadership, compassion, and commitment to helping children succeed.

Above all else, Maria was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She found her greatest joy in spending time with her family and cherished every moment with her grandchildren. She and Ramiro were set to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on August 28th. Her love, wisdom, and gentle spirit will remain with those who knew and loved her.

Maria was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Maximino and Maria Perez.

She is survived by her loving husband, Ramiro De León; her children, Roque De León (Daisy), Max De León (Lindsay), and Marlena De León; and her five cherished grandchildren, Aiden, Wyatt, Logan, Madelyn, Lily; four siblings, Arturo Perez, Leticia Ortegon, Maximino Perez, and Jaime Perez. She also leaves behind extended family members, dear friends, former colleagues, and many whose lives were enriched by her kindness and guidance.

Viewing will begin at 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at El Divino Redentor Methodist Church, 2421 W. Maple Avenue, McAllen, TX 78501. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley Veterans Cemetery, 2520 Inspiration Rd., Mission, Texas 78572. 

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the love, prayers, and support shown during this time. Maria’s legacy of love, service, and unwavering devotion to her family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
