MARIA DE JESUS “MARY” BENAVIDES

EDINBURG – Maria De Jesus “Mary” Benavides, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 6, 2025.

Mary was born in Chicago, Illinois, and later moved to Texas, where she graduated from Roma High School.

She loved cheering on her Gonzaga Bulldogs, but her happiest moments were spent watching her grandchildren play. She was incredibly proud of Nicole, Aidan, and EJ and loved being in the stands cheering them on.

She is preceded in death by her father, Oscar Benavides.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Avelar; her son-in-law, Elmer Avelar; three grandchildren, Nicole, Aidan and Elmer (EJ) Avelar; mother, Maria Concepcion (Connie) Benavides; sister, Isabel Benavides; and her brother, Oscar Benavides.

She was a supportive daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother who cared for her family. Mary will be dearly missed and forever remembered in the hearts of those who loved her.

A private service and prayer were held with her immediate family.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
