PHARR – Dereck Lopez, 36, surrounded by his loving family entered eternal peace on Monday, February 5, 2018.
He will be greatly missed by his parents, Aurelio and Rosa (Cabrera) Lopez; his sister and brother in law, Jessica Lopez and Humberto “Beto” Salazar; nieces Brittney Huerta, Sophia Salazar; nephew Gabriel Salazar; as well as being tremendously missed by his grandmother, Teresa Cabrera; aunts Lupita C. (Joe) Sanchez , Letty Cabrera; uncles Eduardo (Martha) Cabrera, Jorge (Manuela) Cabrera, Dagoberto (Celia Lopez) Cabrera, Celestino (Liboria) Lopez, Armando (Guadalupe) Lopez; aunts Sylvia Martinez, Oralia Figueroa (deceased), Janie (Mario) Nava, Leticia (Daniel) Rodriguez, Mariana (Bernandino Nino) Carrasco; cousins Jerry Jayson, Zachary, Joe III, Yolanda, Sergio and Belinda Sanchez; Luis, Daniel, Jaime, Diego, Julian and Ruth Natali Lopez; Eddie, Alyssa and Noemi Cabrera; Fernando Cabrera; Armando(deceased), David Lopez, Amanda Lopez Sanchez; Gerardo, Erasmo, Margarita and Belinda Martinez; Ludy Nava, Norma Mendoza, Vanessa, Laura, Daniel, and David Rodriguez; Edna, Cindy and Joanna Carrasco; Melba Sosa, Angelita, Imelda and Arturo Figueroa.
Dereck will be remembered as a man with a huge heart towards his family. Always worrying about his grandmother, mom and dad even though he was ill himself. He always made you smile with some joke or punch line. He had like a sixth sense, always knowing what others were going to do before they did it, especially when it came to his sister Jessica. He was there for all his cousins, especially the ones that lived close to him. His humorous posts on social media would always make you smile, even if you were having a bad day.
His contagious smile, his generous heart, unique sense of humor and his wise comebacks will be sorely missed.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2018, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Pharr. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.
Serving as pallbearers will be Juan Espejo, Jerry Jayson Sanchez, Zachary Sanchez, Luis Lopez, Eddie Cabrera, and Diego Lopez.
The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers and support in many heartfelt ways many have shown during this difficult time. Thank you all.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
