Leroy Edward Coronado

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of SFC (Ret.) Leroy E. Coronado, 59, on May 10, 2025.

Leroy was born on September 10, 1965, in Fort Benning, Georgia, and dedicated over 24 years of his life to serving in the United States Army, where he earned a reputation as a formidable Drill Sergeant renowned for his leadership and unwavering commitment to his troops.

Leroy enlisted in the Army in 1984, quickly rising through the ranks due to his exemplary service and dedication. His passionate mentorship shaped the lives of countless soldiers, instilling in them the values of discipline, respect, and teamwork. After his retirement from the military on March 31, 2008, he worked as a Security Officer at several Aflac campuses to work closer with his wife, Yolanda Coronado.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Nick Coronado; stepfather, Ken Wall; in-laws, Gilberto and Natividad Peralez.

He was known for his sense of humor, love for the outdoors, and his ability to bring people together.

Mr. Coronado is survived by his wife of 40 years, Yolanda Coronado; his four children, Veronica Yvette Coronado, Leroy Aaron Coronado, Brian Scott (April) Coronado, Jaylen Xavier Davis; five grandchildren, Derrick Nash, Elisha Pollard, Elijah Dobbs, Lola Dobbs, Noah Coronado; and his mother, Alma Wall.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. with a 6 p.m. prayer service Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 9 a.m. Friday, May 16, 2025, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.

Military honors will be contacted by McAllen VFW Post 8788.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.

Leroy’s legacy of courage, dedication, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be profoundly missed.
