JOSE ISABEL RODRIGUEZ JR.

EDINBURG - Jose Isabel Rodriguez, Jr, 79, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Avalon Memory Care in Edinburg.

Jose was born on November 14, 1946, in Edinburg, Texas. The son of Maria Altagracia Puente, Monterrey, Mexico, and Jose Isabel Rodriguez, Sr., Donna, Texas.

He graduated from Edinburg High School in 1966 and received an associate’s degree from Texas State Technical College in 1982. He was a beloved teacher for over 35 years, teaching Building Trades. He has had many friends and colleagues over the years. He loved giving back to the community by teaching youth the principles of hard work, dedication, and a strong work ethic. His hobbies were carpentry and woodworking. He was a master carpenter, as well as an excellent math teacher. His greatest accomplishment was devoting his time to hundreds of students to the art of building trades construction. Jose was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. Family was the center of his life, and he dedicated his time and energy to those he loved, as well as to his work, which he approached with commitment and pride. His greatest love was Maria Del Socorro Valdez. They married in Edinburg, Texas, in 1966. Jose and Socorro were married for 59 years.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Socorro; his parents, Jose Isabel Rodriguez, Sr., and Maria Altagracia Puente; three siblings, Ofelia Villareal, Irma Cantu, Rene Rodriguez; his in-laws, Adolfo Valdez and Consuelo Guzman-Zuniga.

Jose is survived by his four children, Jose Isabel (Patricia) Rodriguez III, Melissa Ann (Alejandro) Salinas, Mark Anthony (Edith) Rodriguez, Desiderio Lee (Evelia) Rodriguez; 11 grandchildren, Jose, Alejandro, Mark, Lorena, Maricela, April, Amber, Aubrey, Eliad, Destiny and Maximiliano; ten siblings, Hector Rodriguez, Olga (Gilberto) Garza, Francisco Rodriguez, Rodolfo Rodriguez, Yolanda (Tereso) Jasso, David (Norma) Rodriguez, Rosalinda Rodriguez, Irene (Joe) Vera, Ricardo (Tracy) Rodriguez, and Maria Alicia Rodriguez.

Jose will be dearly missed by all who loved him, especially his children.

Our family would like to express our sincere appreciation to Avalon Memory Care for the excellent care and compassion shown to our dad. Your professionalism and kindness made a meaningful difference during a very important time, and we are truly grateful.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. with a 6 p.m. rosary Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jose Isabel Rodriguez III, Mark Anthony Rodriguez, Desiderio Lee Rodriguez, Alejandro Salinas III, Jose Isabel Rodriguez IV and Mark Anthony Rodriguez Jr.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
