JOHN HENRY OLIVAREZ

PHARR – John Henry Olivarez, 49, passed away Monday, August 11, 2025, at DHR Health Hospice in Edinburg.

Mr. Olivarez served as a Sargeant in the United States Marine Corps for four years and was stationed at Cherry Point, North Carolina. In 2002, he joined the Edinburg Police Department where he began his career as a Patrol Officer, SWAT Team Member, Task Force Officer for the FBI, and Criminal Investigator. He took pride in serving the community that he grew up in.

Mr. Olivarez is survived by his wife of 28 years, Sonia Olivarez; two children, John Alexander Olivarez, John Ryan Olivarez; mother, Dalia Olivarez; father, Armando (Sandra) Olivarez; and brother, Armando Lee Olivarez.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. with a 6 p.m. rosary Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 9 a.m. Friday, August 15, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
