Joe H. Ramon

McAllen - Jose Hector Ramon "Joe", 91, passed away Friday, January 23, 2026, at his residence in McAllen, Tx.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Natividad Ramon; and siblings, Leonel Ramon, Raul Ramon, Natalia Cortez, Israel Ramon, Modesto Ramon, Minerva Elizalde, Dora Ramon, Noelia Quarnstrom, Romeo “Ray” Ramon, and Leonel Raul Ramon.

Joe is survived by his wife of 65 years, Berta Longoria Ramon; three children, Joe (Lety) Ramon III, Jaime “Jim” (Sofia) Ramon, Dina (Michael) Selva; nine grandchildren, Aaron Ramon, Sara Ramon, Zackary Ramon, Christian Jacob Ramon, John Samuel Ramon, Lindsey Selva, Sidney Selva, Justin Selva and Kelsey Selva.

Despite tragically having lost both of his parents at a young age, Joe and his siblings overcame the hardships and led meaningful, impactful lives. Joe was the first in his family able to pursue and obtain a college education from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas. After serving in the US Army, Joe returned home to the Rio Grande Valley where he began work as a teacher. Through hard work, a positive mental attitude and perseverance, he went on to lead a full life accomplishing what most dream of. He married Berta Longoria (often saying he had “hit the lottery”in doing so), had 3 children whom he was very proud of and successfully worked as a real estate broker for the rest of his career. Joe enjoyed numerous hobbies including hunting, horses/ranching, playing golf and watching football, especially his favorite Dallas Cowboys.

What stood out most to those who knew him was his outlook on life. Even in difficult moments, he chose optimism and focused on the impact of positive thinking. His journey is a testament to resilience—the reminder that even when beginnings are difficult, one can still create a life filled with meaning and purpose.

His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
