HARLINGEN -It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Father, James Erwin (Jim) Titus, 90. Jim went to join his beloved wife, Patricia A. (Mattson) Titus, on Saturday, June 15, 2024 – exactly two years to the day she went to be with her heavenly father.
Jim was born April 29, 1934 and raised in Des Moines, Iowa where he met the love of his life, Patricia. They married only 9 days later and beat all the odds by staying married for an amazing 66 years!
Jim was focused on creating a strong family foundation. When his children were raised and after selling his company Liahona Mechanical Contractors, he went to school to earn a Master of Science Degree. He was in the electrical field for over 30 years as a licensed electrical contractor and an Electrical Trades instructor at Texas Southmost College, Texas State Technical Institute, and Harlingen High School until his retirement. He helped to write many of the Electrical Apprenticeship programs and journeyman electrical programs for students in the Rio Grande Valley. He served on the IEC National Curriculum Committee as well.
Jim served 13 joyous years as a volunteer and leader at South Texas Health Systems Auxiliary in McAllen, TX and also served several years on the board of the RGV Credit Union.
He was a faithful and loyal servant of God. Jim served many years as a minister in the Community of Christ Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald R. and Mary Ella (Powell) Titus; one brother, Rowland Titus; and his wife, Pat Titus.
Jim is survived by his 5 children: Larry (Lynn) Pieart, Valerie Gamez, James E. (Teri) Titus II, Barry (Eid) Titus, and Gerry (Fran) Titus; 11 grandchildren, including Texas State Representative, Erin Elizabeth Gamez; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Jim made friends wherever he went. He was well liked, charming, witty, and funny, as well as a very caring person. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who had the pleasure of knowing him, especially his cats. We will be forever grateful to his wonderful friends at Golden Palms Retirement Center.
A Celebration of Jim's life will take place at a later date.
