James C. H. Evins

It is with a heavy heart that we bid farewell to our father James (Jimmy) Evins of Edinburg. At 93 years old, he died peacefully Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at The Gardens at Brook Ridge Assisted Living and Memory Care in Pharr following hospice care.

During his life he spent many years travelling throughout Mexico and South Texas serving farmers with their agricultural needs. He also was a front runner in developing frozen food techniques for the wholesale produce industry. He was very dedicated to his work as well as his family life, supporting all the kids in their various aspirations. Before his retirement he was very active at The First Baptist Church in Edinburg and served as a volunteer fireman as well for the city of Edinburg at one time. He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Rachel Irene Atwood Evins, of Edinburg.

Mr. Evins is survived by his three children, Rachel Vickers (Gordon) of Kerrville, Gina Evins of McAllen, Jay Evins (Lourie) of Seguin; three grandchildren, Andrew Evins of Tennessee, Christina Vickers Neal (Trey) of Hemphill, Texas, Sarah Godwin of Seguin; In addition are Heather Sain of Rockport, Miranda Brock, Sumter SC, Adam Dietrich, Lafayette, La.; and numerous great grandchildren. He will be missed by his friends, family and the community he loved so much. We thank the staff and care team at The Gardens at Brook Ridge for their kind and loving care of him.

In lieu of flowers please plant a tree in his memory or donate to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. with a 6 p.m. prayer service Monday, February 23, 2026, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg.

Friends and family are welcome.

Cremation will take place at Memorial Cremation Center in Edinburg.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
