HILDA Z. GUZMAN
EDINBURG – Hilda Z. Guzman, 90, a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at her residence in Edinburg surrounded by family.
Born in 1935 in Linn, Texas, she was raised by hard working parents who instilled her dedicated work ethic and her commitment to community service. She married the love of her life, Joe Guzman, in 1956, and they spent the next 51 years building a life dedicated to love, family and faith. Hilda’s unwavering faith guided her life, and her greatest joy and achievement was her large, close-knit family.
Hilda’s home was a welcoming gathering place for family and friends, and she cherished spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She truly enjoyed her weekly card games and dominos with friends (but only when she won!). She was a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of Catholic Daughters and Alter Society. She was an avid gardener cultivating not only beautiful gardens but also a family rooted in love and faith. Hilda enjoyed traveling and was fortunate to take part in a pilgrimage to Rome, the Vatican and other European countries, which she truly enjoyed. She was employed with the Texas Department of Human Resources for over 25 years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe O. Guzman, Sr; parents, Jose Andres and Leonor Zamora; three siblings, Raul R. Zamora, Rene O. Zamora and Elida Keith.
Hilda is survived by her five children, Joe (Norma) Guzman, Jr., Jaime Guzman, Anna Guzman (Eutiquio Jr.) Elizondo, Becky (Robert) Chavana and Carol Elaine Hernandez; eight grandchildren, Adrian Michael Guzman, Amanda Champion, Carol Christine (Mark) Robinson, Thomas (Ashley) Chavana, Megan (David) Sandoval, Lauren Elizondo, Stephanie (Carlos) Carrillo, and Ashley Elizondo; eight great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Jose Andres (Aida) Zamora, Jr. and Rodolfo (Gloria) Zamora.
Visitation will begin at 5 pm, with a 6 pm rosary, Friday, June 12, 2026, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 12:00 pm, Saturday, June 13, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at El Rucio Cemetery in San Manuel.
