In Loving Memory of Hermila “Mila” Sanchez

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hermila “Mila” Sanchez, 64, a beloved sister, aunt, cousin, teacher, and friend, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at her residence in Pharr.

The youngest of seven children, Mila held a special place in the hearts of her family. She was a devoted daughter who lovingly cared for her parents and, in many ways, helped raise her nieces and nephews, becoming a second mother, confidante, and the ever-beloved “cool Tia” to so many.

A proud graduate of Pan American University and a member of the PSJA Bears Class of 1981, Mila dedicated her professional life to education as a mathematics teacher at Alamo Middle School. Teaching was more than a profession to her; it was a calling. She had an extraordinary memory and never forgot a student's name, leaving a lasting impression on generations of students whose lives she touched.

Mila was creative, crafty, sassy, funny, loving, and full of life. She was an avid Houston Astros and Dallas Cowboys fan and had a special love for the Peanuts characters… especially Snoopy. No matter how busy life became or what health challenges she faced, nothing slowed her down when it came to the people she loved. She was one of her family's greatest cheerleaders, never missing an opportunity to support her nieces and nephews at their many activities. If they were on a field, on a stage, or pursuing something they loved, chances were Mila was there, proudly cheering them on.

Mila was a devout Catholic whose faith was a constant source of strength, comfort, and guidance throughout her life. Even through the health challenges she faced, she remained steadfast in her beliefs, holding tightly to her faith and trusting in God's grace. Her devotion to God was reflected in the love, compassion, and selflessness she shared with those around her.

Her love was expressed not only through her presence but through the countless ways she showed up for others. She remembered the little things, celebrated every accomplishment, offered encouragement, and made everyone feel that they mattered. Her quick wit, generous heart, and unmistakable personality made her a treasured part of every gathering.

Mila's legacy is one of unwavering faith, unconditional love, devotion, laughter, and a life spent giving of herself to others. Though her absence leaves an immeasurable void, we find comfort in knowing that the faith she so dearly cherished now carries her home to eternal peace.

She will forever be remembered as a devoted daughter, loving sister, second mother, favorite aunt, dedicated educator, and a friend to all.

She was, and always will be, our Mila.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ricardo and Maria Luisa Sanchez; and her brother, Romeo Sanchez.

Ms. Sanchez is survived by her five siblings, Jose Reyes (Imelda) Sanchez, Ricardo Sanchez, Jr., Emma T. (Arturo) Garza, Elva (Freddy) Ortega, Margarita (Felipe) Garcia; and sister-in-law, Jody Sanchez; nephews and nieces, John Ray Sanchez, John R.
