SAN JUAN – Guadalupe “Lupe” Rodriguez, 73, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, December 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Alamo, Lupe made San Juan his home in 1987, where he built a life rooted in service, faith, and deep devotion to his community. He dedicated many years to public service, serving as President of the PSJA ISD Board of Education, Commissioner and Mayor Pro Tem for the City of San Juan, and as a longtime volunteer money counter at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Lupe retired from PSJA ISD after 33 years as Tax Assessor & Collector and later continued serving his community as a Right of Way Agent for Hidalgo County Precinct 2.
Beyond his professional achievements, Lupe will be remembered for his generous spirit, and the joy he found in life’s simple pleasures. He loved golfing, barbequing, deer hunting, and spending time around a table of cards or dominoes with friends and family. His greatest happiness came from being present for those he loved — especially his grandchildren, whom he proudly supported in all their activities.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cruz and Trinidad Rodriguez, and seven siblings: Ernesto Rodriguez, Olivia Ordonez, Maria Trevino, Rogelio Rodriguez, Rumaldo Rodriguez, Yolanda Sanchez, and Orlando Rodriguez.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 52 years, Silvia Rodriguez; his children, Veronica (John) Garza and Carlos David Rodriguez; his beloved grandchildren, Emily Denise Garza and Elijah James Garza; and his siblings, Evangelina Contreras (†Oscar), Olga Escamilla, Gloria Ramirez (†John), and Cruz Rodriguez (Manuela).
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m., followed by a 6 p.m. rosary on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. A funeral service celebrating Lupe’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of San Juan.
