FERNANDO M. GONZALEZ

MCALLEN – Fernando M. Gonzalez, 80, died Friday, Jluy 10, 2009, at his residence in McAllen.

Born in Las Vivoras, Texas, Mr. Gonzalez was formerly of Rio Grande City and had lived in McAllen for the past 20 years of his life. He was a member of El Buen Pastor United Methodist Church in Edinburg and was a veteran of the US Navy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Santiago and Sofia Gonzalez; two brothers, Arturo and Isauro Goznalez

Mr. Gonzalez is survived by his wife, Leah R. Gonzalez, three daughters, Cynthia (Alejandro) Gomez, Melissa (Hector) Rodriguez and Veronica (Roman) Handy all of McAllen; four grandchildren, Eric J. Gomez, Matthew, Sophia, Olivia Handy; a sister, Maria Ramirez of Rio Grande City; three brothers, Santiago Gonzalez, Jr. and Rufino Gonzalez both of Rio Grande City and Ramiro Gonzalez of Alton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service Sunday, July 12, 2009, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will be at 9:00 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2009, at EL Buen Pastor United Methodist Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 8788 of McAllen.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
