MARIO G. GOMEZ
PHARR - Mario Gomez, 88, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at McAllen Medical Center.
Mario was born May 26, 1934 in Pharr, Texas, one of seven children born to Donato and Guadalupe G. Gomez.
He is preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Frances "Panchita" Gonzales, Angie Hofer, Graciela Gongora, Virginia Ramirez; and the love of his life, his wife Amanda A. Gomez.
Mario was an avid golfer at Tierra Del Sol Golf Club where he played golf and socialized for many years with great cousins and friends.
He had a passion for sports, especially baseball. Mario played second base for the PSJA Bears, 1949-1953 and was a four-year letterman. He was proud to wear his jacket with the four stripes.
Mario was a decorated Air Force Veteran who proudly served his country for four years. He served three of those years in Germany. Mario was very proud of his contributions to our great nation, also serving in the National Guard from 1951 - 1954. He was always looking for ways to support his fellow veterans.
He was blessed with two sons, Mario Jr. and Marco Antonio; two daughters, Rachel Ann Gomez Wahl and Bonnie; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Mario is survived by his sons; daughter; a sister, Rosalinda G. Gomez; a brother, Donato Gomez Jr.; and his sister-in-law, Lucy A. Purpera.
A memorial service will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
