JOSE "DAVID" GARZA
MCALLEN - Jose "David" Garza passed away September 30, 2018 with the love and strength of his family surrounding him. One of the scions of a great family will be laid to rest. God gives his toughest battles to his bravest warriors. David was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease in 2016, but he refused to be beaten by the disease and always had a positive outlook. His was an indomitable spirit trapped by a body that failed him. ALS may have caused his death, but it did not defeat his spirit. He will be remembered for his wisdom, kindness, generosity, wit, impatience and his great faith.
David was born on January 23, 1952 in San Juan, TX to Eulalio Garza and Enedelia Cantu. He was the sixth child of eight very loved children. He was married to the love of his life Linda Espinosa Garza. They enjoyed 42 years of marriage, raising their children, Jose David Jr., Krystle Garza, DDS and Amy Cummings and several years spoiling their grandchildren, Alyssa, David III, Carter and Emily. Watching his children grow, receiving their college diplomas, starting their careers, and starting their families was one of his biggest joys. Nothing lit up his face more than when his grandchildren entered the room, running into his arms, and planting a big kiss on his cheek. He often said that these moments were the most cherished treasures a man could ask for.
David and his brothers grew up as the sons of a humble truck driver and they followed in his footsteps. In 1991, they decided that by working together and combining their knowledge of the industry they could start their own trucking company and founded Spirit Truck Lines which has become a very successful trucking company due to their hard work and unfailing work ethic.
He was a loving husband, a good brother, a great father and a very proud grandpa. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eulalio Garza and Enedelia Cantu and his father-in-law Rodolfo Espinosa.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Espinosa Garza; his three children, Jose David Garza Jr. (Nancy), Krystle Garza, DDS, Amy Cummings (Isak); his grandchildren, Alyssa, David III, Carter, and Emily. David is also survived by his seven siblings; Sylvia (+Manuel) Rivera, Teresa Inelda (Guadalupe) Ramos, Graciela Garza, Juan A. "Johnny" (Maria Elena), Raul (Gloria), Ramiro, Leonel E. (Angela) Garza; a brother-in-law, Rodolfo "Rudy" Espinosa, sisters-in-law, Diana (Javier) Mancha, and Sandra (Leonard) Guerra, his mother-in-law, Delia Salinas Espinosa and several nieces and nephews.
