MISSION- Gary Wayne Geiser, 83, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2026, at DHR Health Hospice in Edinburg.
Gary was born June 19, 1943 in Meadville, Pennsylvania. When he was just a baby, his family moved to a home built by his grandfather in Loyal Oak, Ohio. He graduated from Norton High School in 1961 and voluntarily enlisted in the United States Army just a month after his 18th birthday. He served during the Cold War until 1964 as a direction-finding operator in the Army Security Agency, including an overseas assignment in Sinop, Turkey, where the ASA conducted signals-intelligence operations monitoring the Soviet Union. He qualified as an expert with both the M-1 rifle and M-1 carbine and won a first place trophy in a “Train-Fire” target competition during basic training. He was honorably discharged in 1964.
After moving around quite a bit in during his time in the Army and as a young man, Gary settled in South Florida in 1974. He became a Sheriff’s Deputy for Palm Beach County, a job he loved and would often tell stories about. Over the course of his life, he held dozens of different jobs during his life, from Industrial Engineer to DJ at The Palace roller skating rink. His final job in retirement was as an armed security officer in South Florida. He moved with his family to South Texas in 2021, and he thoroughly enjoyed being a Texan the final four-plus years of his life.
Gary loved coins, watches, cars, history, police chase videos, and all types of cats - big and small. He couldn’t have cared less about sports, although he would pretend to care if a game was important to someone he loved. He loved talking to anyone who would listen - even strangers. He was an absolutely terrible dancer, but that didn’t stop him, especially if the song “Tequila” came on. And he was always such a good sport - getting down on the ground to play dolls (complete with funny voices), dressing up like Uncle Sam as a guest teacher, letting his granddaughters give him crazy hairstyles, or even swimming in the pool with Terry despite his hatred of water.
Gary was funny, incredibly smart, and immensely proud of his family and their accomplishments. He believed strongly in doing the right thing, even when it wasn’t the easiest thing. Gary dedication to duty, integrity, and service remained a guiding force throughout his life. Like anyone who lives 83 years, he had his share of regrets, but he also had a lifetime of stories, adventures, laughter, and people (and pets) he loved. He lived a very full life, and he will be deeply missed by the family he was so proud of.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip Andrew and Laura Wilma Mayer Geiser; and three brothers, Phillip Ernest Geiser, Donald Eugene Geiser, and Kenneth Arden Geiser.
Gary is survived by his wife of 47 years, Terry Geiser; five children, Gary Geiser Jr., Steven (Tara) Geiser, Michael (Emily) Geiser, Deborah (Chadd) Barringer, Jennifer (Mark) Chiampou; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Cremation will take place at Memorial Cremation Center in Edinburg. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
