FELICITAS G. VILLARREAL

EDINBURG – Felicitas G. Villarreal, 95, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025, in Elsa, Texas, surrounded by her loving family.

Felicitas was a hard worker with a strong and spirited nature. She developed the resilience, determination, and independence that defined her life. She had a feisty attitude which inspired her own children to pursue higher education and to set their sights high. Her fighting spirit was unmatched-“nunca se ahogava en un vaso de agua.”

Felicitas was proud to become an American citizen and often expressed deep gratitude for the opportunities this county provided. Though she dreamed of becoming a nurse, she fulfilled that calling through her compassionate care for others. She lovingly cared for her mother and her husband in times of illness, embodying the very heart of a nurse.

A devoted wife for over 60 years, Felicitas showed her love, courage, and faithfulness through the care she gave her husband during his battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Her strength and devotion were a testament to her character and her deep sense of family.

Faith was the cornerstone of Felicitas’s life. She had an unshakable trust in God and deep love for His Word. Every night, she and her husband prayed together, and she found daily comfort and guidance in reading the Bible. Her faith sustained her through every season of life and served as an example to her family of steadfast devotion and spiritual strength.

While Felicitas often said she wasn’t much of a cook, she was known for perfecting her empanadas, liver, and pan de elote. Her true gifts, however, shone in her love of nature and creativity. She had a green thumb for gardening, tending to her beloved roses, and every year she prepared the soil for her colorful zinnia garden. She was also skilled in sewing and embroidery, but quilting was her true passion – a craft through which she expressed love, patience, and beauty.

Felicitas’s life was marked by love of family, faith, hard work, and perseverance. Her example of strength, grace and devotion will continue to inspire her family and all who knew her.

Felicitas is preceded by the death of her beloved husband, Gil Villarreal; grandson, Juan Pablo Guajardo; nephew raised as a son, Felipe Guerra; parents, Felix and Avelina Guerra.

She is survived by three daughters, Felicitas V. (Dagoberto) Garcia, Sylvia V. (Juan Jose) Guajardo, Mary (David) Martinez; a nephew raised as a son, Amando (Martha) Guerra; and Evelia Guerra; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The Villarreal family extends their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. Your kindness and compassion have been a great source of comfort. We ask that you continue to keep our family in your prayers as we find peace in the beautiful memories she left behind. Our family is deeply grateful to all the caregivers who lovingly cared for our mother throughout the years: Tere, Margarita, Susie, Janie, Xochil, Argie, and Laura.
