MARIA DE JESUS “CHUCHA” ESTEVIS
EDINBURG – Maria De Jesus Estevis, 90, passed away to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ Monday, February 5, 2018, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Alamo, TX to Francisco Estevis and Petra Rodriguez on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1927.
Ms. Estevis is preceded in death by her parents; three infant sisters; and a brother, Martin Estevis.
She is survived by two sisters, Francisca Cuevas of Alamo, Janie Rodriguez of Edinburg; four brothers, Vicente (Ofelia) Estevis, Francisco (Anne) Estevis, Ramon (Berta) Estevis, Jose (Hortencia) Cortez, all of Edinburg; a sister-in-law, Candelaria Estevis of Edinburg; a surviving aunt, Clemencia Estevis of Pharr; and numerous nieces and nephews.
“Chucha” as she was affectionately called, touched many lives and was the life of the party with her friends that enjoyed visiting her. They enjoyed her jokes and hearing her reminisce about the “Good old days.” She would make up songs and sing to her nieces and nephews when they were babies and young children and would dress them in silly and funny outfits and hats. She practically raised or helped raise all of them, and for that they are all eternally grateful to their “Mami Chucha.”
She had a limited education but was blessed with the ability to recall names, dates and places. She remembered everyone’s date of birth, place of birth, where and when they were married and where and when they died.
The family sincerely thanks Aurorita, Juanita, Imelda, Eva (and her mother), Araceli, Maria and Carlos, providers and companions for the care they provided during the time “Chuchita” was ill, her nurse Joe Barrios from Step By Step Home Health Agency and Health Care Unlimited, Dr. Noel Oliveira and Staff, Dr. Monzer H. Yazji, Associates and Staff, and Rio Grande Regional Hospital 4th floor staff.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, February 7, 2018, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2018, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.
