CHIEF ARTURO ESPINOSA
ALAMO - Chief Arturo Espinosa, 61, died Monday, February 26, 2018, at Edinburg Regional Medical Center.
Born in McAllen, he had lived in Alamo all of his life and was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church, where he was an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 10380, as well as a former CCD teacher, CCD crossing guard, and a wedding sponsor.
Chief Espinosa began his career in law enforcement as a dispatcher with the Alamo Police Department and climbed the ranks. After graduating from the police academy in 1978, he worked as a patrolman, sergeant, and lieutenant before becoming Alamo’s Chief of Police, a position he held for 21 years until his retirement earlier this year.
Arturo was an active member of the Alamo Chamber of Commerce, Alamo Lions Club, and other law enforcement, school, and service organizations, including the Lower RGV Police Chiefs Association and PSJA Task Force. He enjoyed barbecuing with friends on the weekends, volunteering with Resurrection Catholic Church and rooting for the Dallas Cowboys. Arturo will be dearly missed and be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.
He is preceded in death by his father, Tirso Espinosa Sr.; and an aunt, Juanita Espinosa.
Chief Espinosa is survived by his wife of 37 years, Gloria Y. Espinosa; two daughters, Kristina Espinosa, Klarisa Espinosa; his mother, Maria Elena Espinosa; seven siblings, Ramon (Maria) Espinosa, Leonor (Felipe) Hernandez, Dora Hernandez, Lupe (Letty) Espinosa, Antonio Espinoza, Elsa Espinosa, Tirso Espinosa Jr., all of Alamo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2018, at Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo. Interment will follow at Val Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
