JORGE E. ESCOBAR

PHARR - Jorge E. Escobar, 64, died Monday, May 4, 2009, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen after a three year battle with cancer.

He was born in Granjeno and had lived in Pharr most of his life. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving during Vietnam, and was the owner of G & G Pest Control.

Mr. Escobar is survived by his wife of 38 years, Belinda Escobar, of Pharr; four children, Marisol (Carlos Lopez) Escobar, of Edinburg, Jorge (Jessica Rodriguez) Escobar Jr., JP Escobar, Georgina (Miguel Medrano) Escobar, all of Pharr; nine grandchildren, Bethanie Escobar, Carlos Lopez Jr., "his son", Alondra Escobar, Michael Lopez, Brandon Escobar, Evan Escobar, Ryan "Boogers" Medrano, Bryanah Lopez and Riley Medrano; his parents, Remigio and Agustina Escobar, of Mission; two sisters, Alma De La Garza, of Mission, Rosalinda Reyes, of Pleasanton, Texas; and a brother, Remigio Escobar Jr., of Arkansas.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 pm, with a 7 pm rosary today, May 6, 2009, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 9 am Thursday, May 7, 2009, at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Pharr. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 8788 of McAllen.

The family would like to thank Dr. Alvaro Restrepo, "his angel", Dr. Michael Jelinek, Dr. David Hailey of the VA Hospital in San Antonio, Dr. Potenciano Garcia and Expert Home Health for the care given to Mr. Escobar. They would like to give special thanks to his sister-in-law, Lydia Moreno, who cared for him.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
