ELIAS SAUL CUEVAS
KINGSVILLE - Elias Saul Cuevas, 84, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at his residence in Kingsville.
Elias was a proud veteran of the United States Army, where he served with distinction in the 1st Cavalry Division during the Vietnam War. His dedication to his country and his fellow soldiers remained a cornerstone of his life long after his active service concluded. As a pillar of the veteran community, he was a committed, long-time member of the Kingsville American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Disabled American Veterans, where he found lifelong camaraderie and purpose.
Beyond his own military contributions, two of Elias’s sons followed his military career; Eloy and Samuel, both of whom followed his example by serving in the military and eventually reaching retirement from the armed forces. Elias will be remembered for his steadfast character and his enduring patriotism.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe and Margarita Cuevas; his in-laws, Samuel and Anita Reyna.
Mr. Cuevas is survived by his lovely wife of 59 years, Oralia Cuevas.
He was a proud and loving father to his four sons: Eloy Elias (Cynthia) Cuevas, Roel Rene (Lisa) Cuevas, Samuel Saul (Juanita) Cuevas, and Marcos Javier (Mandi) Cuevas.
He was also a deeply cherished grandfather to Katie, Cameron, Andrea (Emanuel), Rico (Kayla), Sofia, Samanta, Michael, Scarlett, and Attice, whose lives reflect the love, strength, and guidance he passed down through the generations.
He was blessed with 5 treasured great-grandchildren: Landyn Peña, Emmalyn Peña, Nolan Peña, Elliana Cuevas and Brooks Klinger the newest branches of a family tree rooted in his love and strength.
He also leaves behind 9 beloved siblings, all of whom carry forward a piece of his wisdom, resilience, and enduring spirit.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. with a 6 p.m. rosary Sunday, April 19, 2026, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 9 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2026, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 8310 Highland Ave in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery, 2520 S. Inspiration in Mission.
