DON EMILIO "VITO" ARÉVALO
EDINBURG – Don Emilio "Vito" Arévalo, 101, passed away peacefully Monday, May 11, 2026, at his residence in Edinburg.
Emiliano was born in La Viga Michoacan, Mexico, where he married the love of his life of 79 years, Juanita. He came to the United States with the Bracero Program; then brought his family to Texas.
Leaving behind his 25-acre farm where they raised their children and many farm animals. As a family they migrated from state to state working in the fields. He instilled a hard work ethic in his family.
Each one of us hold special memories with him that we will keep in our hearts forever. He will be missed dearly.
He is preceded in death by his children, Luis Arévalo, Hilda Arévalo; his parents, Jesus and Ramona Arévalo; and numerous siblings.
Mr. Arévalo is survived by his wife, Juanita Arévalo; nine children, Amalia (Arturo) Pérez, Guillermo Arévalo, Panfila (Salud) Garcilazo, Fidel (Rita) Arévalo, José Arévalo, Lupita (Rey) Casas, Hilda Lila (Jeffrey) Melkus, Norma (Santiago) Ramón, Dalia Torres; 24 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; three siblings, Emma Tovar, Hector Arévalo, and Elidia Coria.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. with a 6 p.m. rosary Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 9 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2026, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
