Estanislao “Stanley” Carranza
Pharr-Loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather Stanley Carranza, 88, embraced the Lord on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at The Bridges at Mission Assisted Living Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adalberto and San Juanita Carranza; two brothers, Julian and Adalberto Jr.; three sisters, Eva, Elvira, and Josefa.
Born in Runge, TX, Stanley was a lifelong resident of Pharr and a devoted member of St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church.
Stanley was a retired employee of the Texas Department of Transportation where he worked for 40 years as an Engineer Tech Level 6.
Stanley was a devoted Catholic. He was involved with the Catholic Diocese of Brownsville Prison and Jail Ministry. He volunteered religiously at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, St. Anne’s Catholic Church, St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, all in Pharr, TX, and St. Vianney Chapel in San Juan, TX. He was an active member of the Cursillistas.
Stanley was an avid sports fan. As a track star in high school, he continued the love of the sport by working with the Texas Striders Track Meets. He was also a strong baseball player and continued the game by being an umpire for all youth, high school, and college games. He won numerous awards and trophies from the City of Pharr Baseball League. He was a devout Dallas Cowboys fan and attended numerous games with his son, Rolando. He also rooted for the Houston Texans and cheered alongside his son, Roel, at NRG Stadium in Houston, TX.
Stanley is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mercedes Valenciano Carranza; five children, Anna Lissa (Brad) Gessner, Rolando (Hilda) Carranza, both of Pharr, Roel (Barbara) Carranza of Tomball, TX, Rene Carranza of Pharr, and Roberto Carranza of McAllen; six grandchildren, Veronica, Christopher, Amanda, Timothy, Adelina, and Tara; and one great-granddaughter, Melani. He was known by his kids and grandchildren as “Papo”. He is also survived by his brothers, Abel and Emilio Carranza; as well as his sisters, Eliza, Olivia, and Petra Carranza.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. A memorial service will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2018, at St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Pharr.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
