Amaro Elias Tijerina, 76, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at DHR Health Hospice in Edinburg.
Amaro had a long and outstanding career in law enforcement starting at the age of 21 at the Edinburg Police Department and ended his career at Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. He was also a member of the National Guard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Abelardo & Leonor Tijerina; and his brother, Arnaldo Tijerina.
Amaro is survived by his loving wife, Aída Lopez Tijerina; four children, Amaro (Christina) Tijerina, Homero (Mary) Tijerina, Juan Alonzo Tijerina, Julissa Yvonne Tijerina (Jose L. Longoria); 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Gloria Tijerina Guzman; sister-in-law, Mary Florence Tijerina, all of whom he loved dearly.
Cremation will take place at Memorial Cremation Center, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg.
Funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment of cremated remains will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.
Amaro Elias Tijerina will be remembered for his service, devotion to his family and the love he shared with all who knew him.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
