PHARR- Alonzo Galvan Sr., 96, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2026, at South Texas Health System McAllen.
Alonzo proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953, demonstrating honor, courage, and dedication to duty.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Maria Romero Galvan; parents, Guadalupe Galvan Sr. and Petra A. Galvan; two brothers, Reynaldo and Jose Galvan; and great-grandchild, Matthew Eli Ayala.
Alonzo is survived by his five children, Esther G. (Ruben) Tobar, Alonzo Galvan Jr., Raul (Catalina) Galvan, Petra G. (Andres) Ayala, Christina Galvan; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and four siblings, Guadalupe Galvan, Aurora G. Castillo, Alicia Galvan and Roberto Galvan.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m., with a 6 p.m. rosary Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 13,2026 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Pharr. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
