Antero and I were born the same year: he welcomed the year 1939 in January and I bid it goodby in December. Though he was essentially my nephew, we were raised together as brother and sister. We worked in the fields together, always chatting away. He was my buddy; my defender when I got into fights in school; he was my protector; I always felt safe with him. I did many Tom-Boy things with my brother. As a hunter that he was, he taught me how to shoot the BB Gun; ride a horse; ride the bike; and gave me the courage to swim with him in the canal, at the farm. Antero was very crafty: he made us some sling shots to hunt for grasshoppers (in the heat of the day); we fed them to the chickens and enjoyed watching the chickens fighting over a delightful meal! As teenagers I was very popular with the girls who were interested in getting his attention; I was the "go between." He became a gifted dancer; very light on his feet. At the dance, he never took a break. However, in the dance hall , when Chubby Checker's The Twist came on, we found each other to dance and twist; the rest made room for us; with all my petticoats, we needed much space. He was also a top polka dancer; guiding ,leading and twirling his partner. I was very happy when he learned to drive because now we could go do fun things as teens. These and many more memories I have of my brother and they remain in my heart. May his Soul Rest in Peace.
